Lewat Syimbian dimulailah rencana itu. Ponsel Symbian terbaru tak ada yang berada di bawah kisaran Rp 2 juta. Dan kita tahu ponsel Symbian (terutama versi Anna) umumnya merupakan ponsel high end.

Senin (1/8/2011) secara resmi Nokia mengumumkan ponsel dari barisan Symbian Anna yang memiliki kualifikasi komponen high end namun dengan harga yang terjangkau. Dan, untuk pertama kalinya seri Nokia 500 ini menciptakan rekor sebagai ponsel Symbian pertama yang memakai prosesor 1 GHz. Seri ini secara fisik juga menyodorkan hal-hal yang dulu pernah dipakai oleh Nokia untuk melanggengkan kiprahnya di bursa ponsel dunia, misalnya cover punggung yang dapat diganti-ganti (dalam paket penjualan disediakan dua jenis cover).

Yang tak kalah pentingnya adalah ponsel yang bobotnya hanya 93 gram ini menggunakan kamera 5 MP dengan ruang memori internal mencapai 2 GB. Itu pun masih bisa diekspansi ke kartu memori (microSD). Nokia 500 juga didaulat sebagai ponsel yang bisa dipakai di semua negara. Lihat saja, frekuensi GSM untuk 2G maupun 3,5G (HSDPA) yang ditawarkan sungguh lah sangat lengkap. Plus koneksi nirkabel Wi-Fi maupun Bluetooth (sayang hanya versi 2.1).

Seri ini memakai teknologi layar sentuh untuk interface-nya. Memakai layar berukuran 3,2 inci dengan kepadatan mencapai 16 juta warna.

Jika kebijakan harga juga diterapkan artinya Nokia siap “bertempur” dengan beberapa sistem operasi lain. Nokia menetapkan harga 150 euro (sekitar Rp 1,8 juta) sebelum pajak dan subsidi.

Nokia memang harus menjawab tantangan kompetisi yang ketat. Tampaknya Nokia ingin mengubah paradigma yang salah, bahwa ponsel high end murah pasti kualitasnya pun rendah.”Ini adalah satu contoh bahwa Nokia melanjutkan perjalanannya untuk terus berinovasi denganrangkaian produkponsel pintar kami dan menjadi contoh bagaimana Symbian akan terus mendukung Nokia dalam memenuhi kebutuhan pasar di tahun mendatang,” ujar Ilari Nurmi, Vice President Nokia.

TOOB brings back the curved screen

THQ Wireless has announced Pass The Pigs, the iPhone version of the popular dice game. Playable on an iPod touch as well, Pass The Pigs has players winning points by throwing two model pigs across a casino-style table.
